detailed work is freaking me out

July 2004
For some reason I can no way understand my stereo speaker didn’t make a sound. I suspect the culprit to be mice in the house. Due to the broken speakers, I have to watch DVDs wearing a cheap headphones. Not a very comfortable mode, that is.

One day, before started working I decided to procrastinate watching Gilmore Girls. I realized that the sounds are engineered in a terrifyingly detail. At the barbershop scene, I can hear scissors clicking far in the back of my right ear. There was this part where Lorelai and Rory crossed a street, sounds of cars passing by were moving from my left to right ear —and there weren’t a single car seen on the screen. I may be one in a three hundred people watching Gilmore with headphones on. Others watch them at home, with friends talking on their left and right, real cars passing by their houses, phone ringing, their teeth grinding their popcorn. I’m tryng to say that I would probably be one in that three hundred who was aware of the scissors-clicking and car-passing sound effects. I haven’t even told you about windy sounds. Need I remind you that I was using using a cheap headphone. I cannot imagine what I would hear using expensive ones.

I cannot think of a reason a sane person would to do such mind consuming job but dedication and self-satisfaction.
